Dropped your phone into water? Here’s how to fix it

Accidents can happen with anyone, anytime and anywhere. What you do after the accident, counts. So did you drop your phone in water? Stop panicking because the chances are that you can still save your phone from any damage. It depends on how fast you act. The sooner you act, the better chances there are for you to recover your phone. As soon as you take out your phone from the water, follow the steps mentioned below to fix it.

1. The first thing you have to do is turn it off. No, don’t check whether it’s working or not; simply switch it off.

2. Now that phone is off, open the back of your phone and take out the battery, micro SD card and sim card. While you do it, make sure that the water doesn’t move to prevent it from going deeper into your phone’s system.

3. Now take a tissue and start wiping the insides of your phone to dry it. If there’s water in the corners you can’t reach, use a vacuum cleaner to suck the water out of those pesky corners.

4. After you are done, take a ziplock bag and fill it with uncooked rice and bury your phone in it. The uncooked rice is great moisture absorbent and will dry up your phone.

5. Wait for 2-3 days and do not check your phone in between. The process takes time and you have to be patient for it to work.

6. After few days, take out your phone and put the battery and turn it on. If it doesn’t work, try charging your phone.

7. If it doesn’t work after charging, try replacing the battery as might be damaged. And if replacing the batteries doesn’t work, get your phone repaired by a professional.

Take care not to shake, bang or push any buttons on your phone right after you take it out of your water. And using a blow dryer would be a bad idea too as it would simply heat up your phone. Stick to the above mentioned steps and you might be able to save your phone.
